Amir Technology Labs, Inc. (ATLabs), Sunnyvale, California, Sept.
18, 2003 - ATLabs today announced the introduction of their new
NetBook(tm), the world's first notebook-style, embedded Linux, wireless
thin client appliance.
Thin Client Notebook
The ATLabs NetBook provides a compact and powerful alternative to
traditional PC notebooks, PDA's and application specific mobile
devices. With the NetBook users have full wide-area wireless access
to their enterprise servers, applications and database from the
convenience of the conference table, warehouse, lobby or office.
Compatible with Microsoft Windows Terminal Services and Citrix
MetaFrame, ATLabs lets users run the latest server-based and web-based
applications, without the administrative and overhead costs associated
with personal computers. Users have a choice of Citrix Independent
Computing Architecture (ICA) or Microsoft Remote Desktop Protocol
(RDP), as well as web browsers and terminal emulations for connection
to Windows, UNIX, and MetaFrame servers, the Internet, and mainframes.
Server-based Computing
Server-based computing enables the ability to move applications
to servers, and then use ICA or RDP to display them remotely. The
horsepower and storage required to decode the ICA or RDP data is
minimal. Thus, the thin client device does much less work than a
classic personal computer. For this reason, server-based architecture
is often called a thin-client architecture.
Thin Client Mobility
Thin clients are secure, manageable, affordable, reliable and help
organizations maximize IT budgets and productivity while minimizing
security risks. This when combined with the mobility of a wireless,
notebook-style thin client appliance makes for the ultimate enterprise
productivity tool.
NetBook
The ATLabs NetBook is ultra-slim, ultra-light and ultra-powerful.
It is an ideal thin client solution for high performance enterprise
applications where easy and secure mobile access to Windows, Internet
and mainframes are a requirement. The NetBook comes equipped with
wired Ethernet, modem and 4 USB ports for added versatility.
